The Flamingos
A classic song strikes. You'll be in some random setting with accompanying music (a car with your dad en route to a funeral, the light pop station is playing "Cherish" by the Association; a restaurant eating an early breakfast with two guys you were friends with in high school but haven't seen in seven years, a truck drives by blasting "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James and the Shondells; an elevator trip to a job interview, the Left Banke's "Pretty Ballerina" (Muzak version) is piped in really quietly) and you realize "Wow, this is great goddamn stuff. I've heard it on oldies radio a thousand times but have never given it a real listen."
Other songs that fit the bill include Spiral Staircase's "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday," Dionne Warwick(e)'s rendition of "I Say a Little Prayer," and "I Only Have Eyes For You" by the Flamingos. Check out how freakin' rad the music you always hear but never listen to is.
